Sophie

Creator of Wild Nurture. I was Wild Nurtured from the beginning, riding a horse while in my mother's womb, growing up on a farm in the Highlands of Scotland surrounded by an abundance of natural beauty and beloved domestic and wild animals. Horses in particular helped me grow to accept and stay in my body through the difficulties of being a young, shy and physically different teenager, later I ran horse riding holidays and healing retreats integrating yoga and horse assisted therapy.

My passion for Africa and Kenya in particular began over 20 years ago when I was studying Geography at the University of Edinburgh. I spent every year doing research in Africa. I went on to do a Research Masters in Sustainable Livelihoods and Wildlife Conservation, while also working at the Centre for Tropical Veterinary Medicine. I then moved from the intellect to the journey of the body.

I studied closely with two of the greatest living embodiment teachers of the 21st century, David Deida and Michaela Boehm, living in California and assisting their retreats around the world. I feel it is my dharma to use the embodiment transmission I received to heal the rift between species, between human beings and nature and discover the wisdom wildlife has for us before it is too late. I am a RYT500 yoga teacher and taught yoga for over a decade. I merged my love for the natural world and years of yoga and deep embodiment practice to create ANIMBODY®: a set of organic movement and meditation practices that animate our body and senses on a deeper level and ask what we can learn from the body of the wild - animals and landscapes? Together we will spend time in the wild, observe, sense, share, and practice bodyfullness while being nurtured deeply.

I currently live in Mallorca, Spain, with my partner and our divine dog, Isis, this is her doing puppy yoga in Kenya.

Julie

Julie, as sister to Sophie, also grew up in the Wilds. Julie is a passionate tree planter, woodland regenerator and nurturer of the land. She is a 200RYT yoga teacher and weaves her love of the wild and the breath moving through the body through her somatic yoga and breathwork classes. She is also a film producer and writes screenplays in her spare time between mothering her two precious daughters. Julie started going to Kenya when she was 17 and recalls feeling an ancient sense of "home" there on her first connection with the East African earth. Julie lives in the Highlands of Scotland with her husband, cameraman and author of "Out of Mind", Joe French, and their family. Together, this sister team will guide you on your adventure into the body of the wild.

Local Community

Connection with the local communities is very important to us. Tom Poi, here, is first and foremost a friend, a dedicated student of wildlife and wildlife tourism and passionate about his culture and his land. He exudes good vibes and honour and that is why we support his educational endeavours. Local people are open to sharing their experience of living close to the wild and also key to tapping into the wild is connecting with communities whose whole heritage and life is entangled with the wild.
